Shaheed Maqbool Butt

Shaheed Maqbool Butt was born on feb18 1938 in trehgam kupwara.He became an active student leader of plebiscite front in 1957 – 58.So he had to go into hiding. Just after the completion of his graduation in 1958 Maqbool Bhat migrated to Pakistan where he, after
passing M.A in Urdu began to co-opt the revolutionaries' movement aimed liberation of Kashmir. The movement had it history from 1931 where people gave the sacrifice in the name of plebiscite, under the banner of Muslim Conference headed by Mirwaiz Kashmir Moulana Mohammad
Yusuf Shah.
Moulana Yusuf Shah was forced to exile under a conspiracy by the Government of India. After his exile Muslim Conference was turned into National Confrence. But still people continued to give sacrifices for plebiscite till 1975. After the accord in 1975 Kashmiri nation in general and leaders of plebiscite front , people's league , young man's league, alfata, mahaz e aazadi, jamiat tulba, Islamic student's league, awami action committee, other freedom fighters were put behind bars and subject to oppression, but Shaheed Maqbool Bhatt stood for the liberation of Kashmir. He had started his struggle for freedom with plebiscite front in the name of NLF, which was later names as JKLF. During this period he started to cross the so called ceasefire line with his colleagues including Maj Amanullah khan, Kalay
khan, Aurangzeb Gilgati.
His aim was to see Kashmiri nation to stand for themselves for their independence. He had to suffer many hardships during this period as he had no support neither political nor diplomatic. He alone with his colleagues started make people aware about the thought of his organization (JKLF). Shaheed Maqbool Butt along with Aurangzeb Gilgati Kalay khan and Maj. Amanullah khan entered kashmir valley in June 1966. He was arrested in an encounter and his proud colleague Aurangzeb died as a martyr. Shaheed Maqboolm bhat was sentenced to death on 17 Aug. 1968. However the ingenious strategist, adventurist and expeditionist Mohammad maqbool bhat adroitly and dexterously managed his escape from central jail sgr.
On dec 9 1968. In May, 1976 the ingenious resistance icon Maqbool bhat re-entered the valley along with Hameed bhat and Riyaz Dar to extricate kashmiris from the whirlpool of despair and despondency. He was thereafter arrested in langate kupwara on june 7 1976. Maqbool bhat spending long eight years in solitary confinement in tihar jail Delhi after which he achieved martyrdom in 1984. It was an eye opener for the people of Kashmir and the new chapter opened in regard with the long pending issue of kashmir which stands at the high priority in regard with international issue. The people of Kashmir that moment were totally distracted and forgot what india had promised with the people of Kashmir in respect with freedom. Ghulam Nabi bhat, manzoor bhat, zahoor bhat and their family relatives from trehgam became active to his mission alive for which JKLF IN 1988 started a struggle on three fronts political, diplomatic and military front. Ghulam nahi bhat called HAJY group from Islamic students' league to join JKLF.
Then HAJY group started armed resistance against the Indian occupation. To follow Shaheed Maqbool bhat's footsteps was a big challenge at that time. JKLF's thought had an acceptance though out
the world, so 1988 in our base camp at Muzaffarabad (azad Kashmir) the then chief marshal law administrator of Pakistan Shaheed General Mohammad Zia ul Haq supported JKLF's thought and its slogan morally, politically and diplomatically. JKLF also had the support of international community. When the moment peaked lakhs of people supported and Shaheed Maqbool bhats's thought of independence slogan became a house hold slogan throughout valley. In between two more brother of Shaheed Maqbool bhat, Shahed ghulam Nabibhat and Shaheed Manzoor Ahmad bhat and four close relatives of Bhat family got martyrd by indian forces. Youngest brother of maqbool bhat, zahoor ahmad bhat is still in prison. Shaheed Maqbool bhat's mother Shahmali begum actively participates in protests for demanding the remains of her son from last 20 years.
